Sustainable Sites Initiative: Guidelines for Sustainable Land Design, Construction and Maintenance Practices

The Sustainable Sites Initiative, developed by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center was created to promote sustainable land development and management practices that can apply to sites with and without buildings. The presentation shall give a general overview of the program, its connection to USGBC’s LEED ND rating system and will encourage the participation of Florida parks and recreation projects to take part in the Initiative.
Learning Outcomes
1. Participants will recognize the sustainability level of existing and future park construction projects, management and operations.
2. Participants will discuss how to apply sustainability principles to any site, with or without buildings which are to be protected, developed and redeveloped for public or private use.
3. Participants will list a series of guiding principles that reflect the values of the Sustainable Sites Initiative and can be used to guide site development.
