Yesterday, members of our team (The Trust for Public Land, Reliant South and Wood+Partners Inc.) were on site for the official kick off for construction of Island View Park in Franklin County. The 7+/- acre Island View Park is made possible by Franklin County Board of County Commissioners, The Trust for Public Land, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment Trustee Council - Florida Coastal Access Project and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Coastal Wetlands Program. The park is located on a former hotel site, with great views of St. George Sound and Dog Island. The conceptual plan highlights the site’s environmental assets and incorporates them with a passive recreational use that reflects the potential needs and desires of the nearby users. In addition to restoring the maritime oak and shoreline grass habitats along the water’s edge, the park provides public access to the St. George Sound for recreational fishing, paddle craft, educational interpretation and enjoyment of the views.
