PARK(ing) Day
is an annual international event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into temporary miniature parks, or parklets. The mission of the event is to call attention to the importance of urban open space, generate a dialogue regarding how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat. These measures reduce parking demands and encourage open space preservation.

DETAILS: Join us on Friday from 11AM to 2PM as members of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects will participate in PARK(ing) Day by designing and creating 2 temporary parklets in “The Heart of the Lowcountry” Downtown Bluffton, SC. Each parklet will offer a FREE beverage and information about “Parking Day”. Local vendors will supply unique items to help decorate the parklets.

PARKLET #1: The parklet in the Promenade will promote healthy lifestyle alternative transportation
methods for visitors and residents of the Promenade, Downtown Bluffton and all urban spaces.

PARKLET #2: The parklet at Campbell Chapel AME Church will be located on Boundary Street at the Campbell Church. This parklet will offer the public an opportunity to learn about the history of Campbell Church, the services it provides the community and its future plans for a founders’ garden.
